The Al-Futtaim family’s commercial holdings were split up in the year 2000, with Abdulla Al Futtaim taking charge of the automobiles and primarily retail company and his cousin Majid taking leadership of the real estate development business, which has since become known as the Majid Al Futtaim the Group. Both businesses are still owned by the Al-Futtaim family, but Abdulla Al Futtaim is the primary shareholder in both companies.
In September of 2013, the company placed a winning bid of 86 million dollars to purchase full ownership of the vehicle dealer CMC Holdings, which is located in Nairobi.
