How can you save your heart

                  Many of us heard  about the word ‘heart attack’. But we didn’t know what is the meaning of ‘heart attack’?  It is a silent killer. Most heart patients are in Kerala because of increased diabetes, smoking,  alcoholism etc. 

                Heart attack is the blockage of blood flow to the heart muscle. It usually occurs when a blood clot blocks blood flow to the heart. It is also called myocardial infarction. It is a process by which collections of cholesterol are deposited in the the walls of arteries. It cause hardening of arterial wall and narrowing of the artery. It cannot deliver enough blood to maintain normal functions of the body.

 Causes

  • Smoking 
  • High BP
  • Diabetic Mellitus, 
  • Obesity, 
  • Family history
  • Stress

 Risk factors

  • Age, 
  • Family history
  • Increased blood cholesterol
  • High BP 
  • Use of tobacco
  • Diabetic mellitus
  • Male than female

Signs and symptoms

  •  pain in legs while walking
  •  chest pain 
  • increase heart rhythm 
  • chest discomfort 
  • nausea 
  • cold sweat 
  • heartburn
  •  indigestion 
  • left arm pain 
  • upper back pain 
  • Vague feeling of illness 
  • Delay in healing of wounds to legs.
  • leg ulcers 
  • mental deterioration 
  • wheezing 
  • weakness 
  • dizziness
  • diarrhoea

 Diagnosis

  •  ECG (electrocardiogram)
  •  Blood test( CPK, triponin) 
  • Angiography
  • TMT

 First aid

  •  check the pulse, BP,  oxygen level 
  • Raise the  head backward. If the person vomiting,  turn the head sideways.
  •  Give CPR 30 minutes and give artificial oxygen. 
  • Loosen the dresses 
  • Do not apply cold water to the face 
  • Give rest to the patient. 
  • Give  tablet isordil and tablet Aspirin. 

Prevention

  •  Maintain healthy weight with heart healthy diet.
  •  Don’t smoke.
  •  Exercise regularly.
  •  Manager stress.
  •  Control BP,  cholesterol, diabetes 
  • Drinking water before bed. 
  • Daily physical activity can lower your risk of heart disease.
  •  Eat vegetables and fruits,  beans, lean fishes, low fat foods,  Apple, almond, walnut, berries, yogurt are best for heart.
  •  Get good quality sleep
  • Quick  treatment can save your life.
  •  get a regular medical check up.

 How do you stop Heart Attack immediately

  • Try to person  calm, sit or lie down. 
  • Have them swallow  baby aspirin, it can help slow down the heart attack. 
  • If the  person stops breathing, you should perform CPR right way.
  •  Mild Heart Attack might only occur  2 to 5 minutes, then stop with rest. 
  • Full heart attack with complete blockage last for more than 20 minutes.
  • If your  symptoms persist for more than 15 minutes,  you are at risk.you receive immediately medical action. 

How can you test your heart 

  • place your index and middle finger of your hand on  inner wrist of other arm just below thumb.
  • you should feel a pulsing against your fingers.
  • Count the number of taps you feel in 10 minutes. 
  • Multiply that number by 6 
  • find out your heart rate for one minute.
